Last fall, I collected lots of open pollinated trumpet African Queen lily seeds. If anybody is interested to experiment and grow lilies from seeds, email me and I will send you a packet. These seeds are mixed of four strains of AQ growing in my garden.

Floris Hekker has medium size flowers. The green strappy leaves grew at the same time with the scapes. Although short in stature, it compensated its shortcoming with its vibrant red flowers.
In the second photo, FH was photographed with Chico and supposed to be Red Lion. Last September, we had a tree cut down in the front yard. The tree was half dead. The hostas planted under it will be moved to another bed.

This is the front garden, one of the original flower beds of the house. We have another mature tree in this area. Lots of lilies are planted here and these lilies are the ones I am digging and come spring I hope I can move the hostas here.
The digging continues and today, I dug the Bill Cramer lilies.

I made a new garden bed for my lilies for the reason that I need to separate them from the hostas. It will take a while before I can complete the move.

Since the weather has cool off a little bit, I started working in the garden. I started off with digging and dividng my irises. I am waiting for another month or so before I begin moving some of my lilies to a sunnier spot in the garden. Here are a few blooms from the garden.

This Crinum just bloomed for me. Purchased as C. Stars and Stripes. On my research, it look like Crinum jagus var. rattrayi. It has plump buds, pure white flowers and gardenia-like fragrance.

Sister seedling.

Both of the above sister seedlings have green back and creamy yellow inside. The first is kind of bland in shape but it has more bud count for its maiden bloom. The second has the grace and flair of a trumpet. The tips of the petals curls back.

This photo was taken yesterday while I was watering. I put the end of the hose (no nozzle) at the base of the plants and leave it on for a few minutes. That way I can do some other things. . We were away for a long weekend and my plants are so thirsty they need deep watering.

The stone edgers that you see on the lower right part of the photo are for the kidney bed that I had made in the middle of the yard but I have no time to install them right away. This will be my fall garden project.

Please excuse my messy garden. I just tuck lily bulbs here and there when I get them. No real design.
Lankon is the result of crossing L. longiflorum (Easter Lily) and L. langkongense. Purchased as a small bulb from Faraway Flowers last fall and I am so glad it gave out a single bud. The bud size itself is long and fat just like one of its parent, the Easter Lily. The petals are spotted all over. A delight to see this one of a kind lily blooming here in my garden.

The first year these lilies grew in my garden their stems were broken when a large limb of a tree fell on them during a storm. This year, they rewarded me with beautiful blooms. The petals are a rosy pink with yellowish star in the middle accented with dark spots. They grew to about 3 feet and they have high bud count.

I planted some bulbs in the ground when the weather in late March soared to 90 F. I also unpotted one of my older bulbs and planted it in the ground and has offset like crazy. They seem to thrive in my daily watering and a dose of liquid fertilizer once a week. One of the bulbs that remained potted is also blooming.
These plants are native to South America and are hardy in zones 8-10 here in the US. They are very inexpensive and are readily available from garden centers in spring time.

Its flower is white with pink reverse, has yellow throat with lime green style and filaments and orange anthers that are bursting with pollens. This lily is a bee magnet in my garden and smells divine.

It is advisable to cut a third of the stem and leave the two third to feed the bulb underground. Cutting more than a third of the stem will result in less bloom the next season. Also, it is advisable to remove the anthers from the flowers as they stain fabrics.Lilyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12575780176493299260noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076910230051897430.post-88164800279303588492012-06-11T00:26:00.000-07:002012-06-11T00:26:47.179-07:00The Lily Season BeginsThe first bloomers in the garden.

They all bloomed this spring. Having seen a lot of flopping peonies in the neighborhood, I opted for Japanese and double types with strong stems, my main criteria in choosing peonies for my garden. Here is a link for the different types of peony flowers.
The following four peonies are what I ordered.
