The Reason

Last September, we had a tree cut down in the front yard. The tree was half dead. The hostas planted under it will be moved to another bed.
We also had those three leggy evergreens cut down (You only see the trunks.) They only have their crowns (tops) left after I keep cutting their branches off. I need the area to have sun exposure so I can grow some lilies and irises in there.
This is the front garden, one of the original flower beds of the house. We have another mature tree in this area. Lots of lilies are planted here and these lilies are the ones I am digging and come spring I hope I can move the hostas here. The digging continues and today, I dug the Bill Cramer lilies.

Wow, that will certainly change things in your garden! More Lilies and Irises--yay!

Hi Lily, i have not been posting diligently lately, as I am helping my university to evaluate technologies and help them apply for patents. Besides, i haven't gone home for more photos.

I pity the trees to be cut, but at least they are not giving you dangers later. How i wish it is like that here, that you just have to call those cranemen for help. I want some of our trees in the property pruned heavily but labor is very difficult to come even in the province. My duhat tree needs intensive pruning to allow the citrus trees get more light. Happy Weekend, take care.

Always kind of traumatic to cut down a tree, even if it's the right thing to do. Can also be something of a relief.

@ Beth,

Certainly it will change the dynamics of the garden. I have recently added close to a hundred iris cultivars in my garden and they were planted randomly. I will rearrange them next year.

@Andrea,

The trees were finally cut down. Seven men crew, four machineries used and three hours work and I am broke, seriously.

Here, we have to consider a lot of things, neighbors' properties, safety and all that stuffs. All of the branches were lifted over the power line to where the chipper was. Not a single branch or limb was dropped in the garden. And we chose fall to this job because of the plants. I don't want anything damaged during the growing and blooming season.

@Jason,

You are so right. That tree was the reason why I grow lots of hostas when I started gardening. It got the Dutch Elm disease and we have no choice but to cut it down.

At times letting in more sunshine can be the most important thing. I just regret some of my earlier tree planting which went ahead without enough thought for the future.

Hi Lily, i haven't heard from you for a while. How are you, how is the garden. I don't send emails as well, hehe. I hope everything is doing well. It is long weekend here and i am glad, going home to Batangas, it's my birthday today, Andres Bonifacio, remember?
