Nymph and Big Brother

Both of these lilies are OT (Oriental/Trumpet) and are strong grower. There is no need to stake them. Both have high bud count this year.

Big Brother has the biggest bloom I have ever seen in a lily.

They look beautiful! I grow big white trumpet lilies but I can't remember what their official name is. Are yours fragrant?

Lovely lilies! My lilies aren't having a very good year this year. In fact, one that reached more than 6 ft tall last season is now just barely 4 feet with buds drying up and falling off. Can you give me some advice?

The orienpets are wonderful this year. However, I have some really tall ones that I ordered in a mix and staking does not even seem to keep them upright. I will not order again without knowing what they are.

Oh, Lily, they are beautiful! I can't believe they're so tall! The pink/white ones are my favorites--I know they're great cut flowers, too.

Big brother is a beauty, and a fabulous colour. I have a few of these orienpets which are called Tree lilies over here, I suppose because of their height.

@Casa Mariposa,

I don't know if they are fragrant. I never bother to sniff them. Your lilies could be Regale. To me, the most fragrant lily I grow. Thanks so much for the nice comment.

Hi Jean,

Some of my lilies did not do very good either this year. I suspect the dry winter and the early heatwave in March is the cause. Lilies are such easy to grow. Full sun is where they grow best. I don't do special care on them. A light feeding of triple 10 fert in early spring helps.

Hi Eileen,

The trumpet and orienpet lilies are very tall, growing from 4 to seven feet. Sticking to Asiatics and LAs will be best. There are also Asiatics that are especially bred short lilies for pots and for the fron border like the Tiny series from the Lily Look Collection and a few orientals like Salmon Star.

Thanks Beth. Yes they are great as cut flowers, however, if you want your lilies to bloom the following year, do not cut more than a third of the stem.

Alistair, you won't be disappointed with Big Brother. Lily Tree is a marketing ploy, they are actually the result of crossing two division of lilies, which are the Oriental and Trumpet hence they are called Orienpet or OT.

They are beauties, Lily. Those are called stargazer here, right?

Hi Lily!

These are great. My trumpets are just beginning to bloom and I cannot find bamboo stakes to stake them up. Ouch! They are taller than ever. You have some very nice flowers this year.

Hello Bom,

I think so. All Oriental lilies are called Stargazers there. These lilies are OTs-Oriental/Trumpets. A cross between those two divisions of lilies.

Hello Clayton,

It's great to see you here. Most of my trumpets don't get support, I just let them be. Only the weak stemmed gets it. The longest stake I can find is 48" long and is not long enough for the tall trumpets.

Thanks for the compliment. I wish I have lots of free time to post pics of all of these beautiful lilies that I grow. Maybe this winter...
