Hippeastrum Lima

Purchased as H. La Paz from John Scheepers. This is the first bulb that I have planted from the new bulbs that I have acquired this year and also my first mislabel. I found it with 6 inches growth in the basement and had to plant it right away. I potted it up on the 27th of November and saw the first blossom open on the 19th of December.

Merry Christmas to all garden bloggers from around the globe.

Wow! Exotic! Is it any fussier than the more typical types? Do you have trouble with fungus gnats? And if so, how do you deal with them?

Jean,

It is basically the same culture as the single/double flowered ones that can be bought at garden centers or hardware stores. Yes, I do have trouble with fungus gnats. Last year, I bought the generic spray and it didn't work. Some suggest soap and water. This season, I went overboard and bought a drench that kills soilborne insects.

Thanks for stopping by.:)
