Woodland Wildflowers-Part 2

My second trip to the woods was when the Erythronium albida are blooming. It's quite a sight to see them en masse. I noticed though that the plants without bloom outnumbered the blooming ones. There was even an area where they were growing so thick and not even one bloomed.

Also growing in this forest preserve are the Polygonatum also known as the Solomon's Seal.

My Solomon's Seal is sleeping for the winter. It is one of my favorite plants...given to me by a friend. I like how the small stalks cover the forest floor...lovely.

Hi Lily, I just love your postings on woodland flowers. The purple trillium is just the prettiest. We have the large white ones in the woods around here but I do not have any in my garden. I like their blotchy leaves too. I do have a volunteer Jack in the Pulpit in my woodland garden. I love the red berries in the fall. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for dropping by.

Solomon's Seal is a wonderful woodland plant, tough and delicate at the same time.

They are beauties, Lily. I love the shots where you capture the flowers straight on from the forest floor. I don't think we have Erythronium in the woods here, but Polygonatum is almost too plentiful. But I love both of them. Great shots!

I added variegated Solomon's Seal to my garden this fall. I'm really looking forward to it. Erythronium is really beautiful. Do they always bloom this early?

CM, the variegated Solomon's Seal is very pretty. You won't be disappointed with it. It will certainly brighten up a shady garden come spring time. The Erythroniums bloom in spring in late April/early May. The photos are taken last year. Thanks for following my blog and thanks for the comment.

I'm thinking it won't be long till you see this year's blooms. I walked around my Chicagoland garden today and even picked some parsley.

@Carol,
With this mild winter we are experiencing, I agree that it won't be long till I see these beauties. I too walked around my Chicagoland garden and saw a few daffodils and crocuses up and a a couple of lily noses are poking up. Thanks for the visit.
