Purple Prince

Advertised as purple lily. The online and catalog photos of this lily is dark purple. Here are images I took from my garden last summer.I ended up owning thirteen of this lily. The first batch was purchased two years ago and got some more last fall and a few more from a trade last spring. They all came out the same color, dark pink.

This pic was taken from the group that grew in full sun.

This one received afternoon sun only.

I'm almost weeping here. I planted 10 of those this fall & the rotten squirrels dug them all up and ate them. I always take catalog descriptions with a grain of salt, but it's still a beautiful color. Mine would have been growing with only afternoon sun. Sigh.

Sorry to hear about what happened to your Purple Princes. I agree it is still a beautiful color and yours could have the nicest color with the growing condition in your garden.

Thank you for stopping by MMD.

Thanks for posting so many pictures of this. I ended up ordering it from VE anyway. I will always wonder why vendors want to call something one color, when it is a perfectly nice “other” color? Why not call it “Pink Princess” ?! I will have to see if the color of pink this has, goes with everything else. Maybe I’ll plant it in a temporary location, until I see. It was advertised as an orienpet, but to me looks like more of a trumpet form. What do you think? My only other orienpet (honeymoon) opens very wide, to look rather flat, like an oriental.

I ordered Landini too. I see you have another dark one, that might be more promising for me to get.

Pink Princess is a perfect name for this lily. One lily enthusiast commented that the breeder of this lily is color blind.:) Yeah, this one does not open wide, definitely it got its trumpet ancestry. Sound like Honeymoon got more of its oriental side.

I ordered my lilies from different companies. I'd say my favorite right now is Van Engelen and The Lily Garden. Thanks!
